Is Aunt Petunia a Witch?

Written by - Chris La Mar

That is the question many of us have asked at least once, and I believe I may have found your answer. The answer is: Aunt Petunia is NOT a witch.

While it may seem obvious the reasons one may come to a different conclusion,
there is significant proof toward my theory. All those times Harry made his Aunt mad, She would have been furious. In Harry's case, and many others' too, the furiosity would have made strange things happen. The time he was forced to wear the sweater with puffballs, it shrunk, and since Aunt Petunia would have been a fully trained witch, she would have easily been able to make it go back to its original size.

As you have read, there is absolutely no indication that she used any magical powers to turn the sweater back. It would have meant showing Harry magic, so
maybe that was a reason. Let's take another look at another incident.

Before Harry's third year, his 'Aunt' Marge came to his house for a visit. During that visit, Harry had blown her up into a giant, round, floating ball. As she continued to expand, Harry's aunt and uncle tried to bring her back to the ground, but when it didn't work, Petunia showed no signs of
anything magical. Thus, Marge ended up many yards in the air. Now, Harry had already spent two years at Hogwarts, so he knew about magic. Why didn't Petunia do anything? Let's look into one of the biggest examples.

If Aunt Petunia were a witch, that would have meant Dudley would have been a wizard. Assuming wizardry is a dominant trait, for Lily and Petunia to both be wizards, at least one of their parents would have had to be a wizard. Lily was a Muggle-Born. Furthermore, Dudley would have certainly been a wizard.

So, there you have it. Science, actual occurrences, and common sense proves that Petunia is not a witch.
